Mary’s Discovery Lynn had also woken early, full of beans and raring to go, after a quick health conscious, low fat breakfast she had spent the day shopping. She had deliberately got off the bus two stops early and walked though the university campus checking out what was this years student look was like. As you have probably guessed I am not very good at this internet thing (hopefully practise will help) so if you would be so kind as to copy this message and post it in any newsgroups that you do not see it in I would be really grateful.
In particular I would like to hear from anyone who can help with the following
1 - I would like to do a column called 'Letter From America' about tranny life in the USA. If you are an out and about trannie from America who would like to write a light hearted colunn for us, hopefully with pictures as well PLEASE get in touch with me.
2 - We need an 'Agony Aunt' - any volunteers?
3 - We need someone who can compile an astrology page with a trannie slant. Come on 'Plastic Peg' I know you're out there.
4 - 'Social Diary' - I need someone who goes out on the scene a lot who would love to see their work in print - a bit like Tiffany Tuesday in Repartee
5 - Cover girls - all you beautiful ladies who just love to be seen please get in touch with me about being a cover girl for us.
6 - 'Tranny Showcase' - Every month we would like to do a 4 page article on a feminine tranny with a good wardrobe. Lots of pictures and a bio. We will happily give any link to your website. One of the reasons for their success was the scarcity of alternatives, as a result of restrictions on female employment in many trades. In Crowston's portrait of the private lives of seamstresses, we see, among other things, how they went beyond traditional boundaries by choosing to remain single and establish their own households. Individually and as a group, the seamstresses contributed greatly to "a new articulation of the difference between male and female work," and, indeed, to "changing gender ideologies." Not insignificantly, the garments they made "both reflected and shaped modern conceptions of femininity."
Seamstresses, therefore, can be characterized as feminists, Crowston argues, to the extent that they "aimed to redress the particular limitations women faced in economic and social life." They were "self-conscious of the inequalities imposed on women in the labor market and therefore viewed their trade as a protected haven of female work and autonomy." Still, Crowston concedes that the guild's success had paradoxical consequences for women. Its growing membership and visibility "ultimately fostered an essentialized femininity that was tied to fashion and appearances."
