In psychology, frotteurism or frottage (from French frotter "to rub") refers to a specific sexual disorder, a paraphilia involving "anonymous and discreet rubbing" to achieve sexual arousal or even orgasm in a public place, such as on a crowded train. Usually such nonconsensual sex is a sexual assault. A person who practices frotteurism is known as a frotteur.

However the popular usage of the term frottage expands its meaning to include all forms of consensual sexual rubbing, whether clothed or nude, and in this sense refers to normal sexual activity. See outercourse.

Slang
*Dry humping - two people engaging in clothed frottage in a manner that simulates intercourse.
*Grinding or freaking - a modern dancing style which involves partners rubbing their clothed bodies on one another.
*Frotteur geek - a colloquialism for a person with a devotion to an atypical scenario for frotteurism.
